What do we do?
Build Up Michigan is devoted to helping individuals, parents, and people who work with families (known as primary referral sources), to connect with the special educational services that may be needed. In Michigan, eligible children, youth, and young adults may receive special educational services from birth through 25 years of age.
Anyone can make a referral for a Build Up Michigan evaluation if it is suspected that the child/young adult is developmentally delayed or has a physical or mental condition highly associated with developmental delay. Primary referral sources can include hospitals, physicians, parents, local education agencies, public health facilities, other social service providers and other medical providers.
Through multiple venues, our goal is to refer as early as possible all children, youth and young adults with disabilities who may be eligible for special educational services through Michigan’s Administrative Rules for Special Education and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act Part B.
Build Up Michigan provides information about special education programs and services and helps to arrange free screenings or evaluations to find out if a child is eligible for free, extra help from the public school system.
If a child you know is struggling in school or has a physical, emotional, behavioral, or communication problem that might prevent success in school, call Build Up Michigan of Berrien County. We're here to help.
