Overview of the State Continuing Education Clock Hour (SCECH) Program
What are SCECHs?
SCECHs are State approved in-service, workshop, training, or conference credits that are used for the renewal of selected certificates issued by the MDE. SCECHs are the total number of instructional hours in a program.
Who is eligible to use SCECHs for certificate approval?
All educators with certificates/licenses issued by the MDE Office of Professional Preparation Services are eligible to use SCECHs toward certificate/licensure renewal.
Attendance Requirement
SCECHs are contact-hour based. Participants must have 100% attendance at offerings and complete an offering evaluation. Verification of attendance is required and participants must sign-in and complete an online evaluation of all offerings. Failure of a participant to fulfill the requirements will result in no SCECHs being awarded for that offering.
To Apply for SCECH Credit Sponsored by Berrien RESA
Participant application paperwork will be available at the beginning of the first session. Completed paperwork and payment must be submitted prior to the end of the day. Participant fees are $5.00 and non-refundable. Berrien RESA cannot invoice for the SCECH participant fees.
Important!
For participants to earn SCECHs, they must attend the entire program as required by the Michigan Department of Education (MDE). This means attending all sessions according to the approved schedule including arriving on time and remaining for the duration of each session. MDE and Berrien RESA review all programs and monitor attendance. Program planners determine the method for documenting attendance. It is the responsibility of each participant that their attendance has been documented. Failure to comply with program requirements, including attendance, will result in disallowance of SCECH credit.
Michigan Online Educator Certification System (MOECS)
All SCECHs earned will be awarded to educators and administrators via the
Michigan Online Educator Certification System (MOECS). Once uploaded to MOECS, participants will receive an email directing them to complete an evaluation.
The requirements for your account will be a valid PIC number. After completion of the required evaluation of the offering, SCECHs will be awarded.
Participants are asked to complete the evaluation within 30 days after the program is uploaded.
