What we do:
Berrien RESA’s Mental Health Consultant coordinates and supports the implementation of evidence based mental health services for students in local districts by providing technical training to providers and facilitating peer collaboration. In addition, if districts have mental health needs not met by current staff, the Mental Health Consultant can supplement and deliver direct services to students.
We are here for YOU:
- Provide mental health service to students 1:1.
- Provide therapeutic groups of up to 8 for students needing more intensive Tier II/III support with a focus on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, and practicing coping skills.
- Support existing mental health workers with training and collaboration.
- Increase mental health services in schools utilizing new Medicaid funding to create new direct service positions.

- Michigan has responded by expanding capacity for Behavioral Health Services to students in the school setting with a Medicaid expansion.
- Providers who are connected to students and accessible in the school environment can improve efficacy and outcomes.

- Rising rates of Suicide, Depression and Anxiety have highlighted the importance of attention to mental health as part of supporting academic success.
- As a result of the school safety crisis of recent years, momentum is building to push states to take all steps possible to support better access to behavioral health services for students.
