Training Model

Participating schools will receive training and support through a Berrien RESA team of data coordinators, trainers, and coaches. Our goal is to increase the capacity for implementation and sustainability at each of the participating schools. Our focus is on implementation with fidelity.

Trainings are built around the 6 Big Ideas of PBIS:

How to Join PBIS

Every spring, a county-wide invitation is sent to all superintendents and principals. To show your interest and initiate the application process, all you have to do is reply. Interviews and walk-throughs are scheduled due to the limited number of spaces offered.  In the meantime, if you’re interested in starting PBIS at your school, reach out to us regarding pre-readiness activities you can start developing.

The Berrien RESA PBIS Team

Implementation Team

The implementation team is responsible for guiding all PBIS efforts and for designing systems to facilitate and improve the work of those implementing PBIS locally. The implementation team also helps in the selection and implementation of effective innovations associated with behavior systems and practices.

Trainers share PBIS content, facilitate conversation and  guide schools on best practices to install PBIS. Schools participating in PBIS training receive between three and five days of professional development for their leadership team at Berrien RESA. Additionally, Berrien RESA is committed to sustaining PBIS in our county with long-term support, access to staff and PBIS resources.

Data Coordinators

Berrien RESA has a team of data coordinators to help local districts and schools install and understand assessments for evaluation. Evaluation is a critical element of MTSS.  Implementing Schoolwide PBIS involves administering three assessments (Tiered Fidelity Inventory, School Climate Survey and Social Risk Screening Scale) at regular intervals. The data are analyzed and used to help create plans for improved outcomes. Schools will be supported by Berrien RESA’s data coordinator team who specialize in each of the assessments.

A Berrien RESA external coach is assigned to each participating district or school leadership team. External coaches function as facilitators to help guide discussion and PBIS installation, while helping schools maintain their unique culture and develop their own problem-solving protocols. External coaches guide the leadership team with strategies to grow and sustain PBIS over time. The external coach works closely with the internal coach. The internal coach is a member of the school’s PBIS leadership team.  There are four essential coaching functions, they are: Prompting, Building Fluency, Performance Feedback and Adaptation.
