What do we do?
Berrien RESA's Facilities and Operations Department works to maintain a safe, clean and functional environment for students, staff and the community. We take pride in providing leadership to other school facilities departments in Berrien County. Our active participation in the Michigan School Business Officials and its local chapter The South West Michigan Facilities and Operations Directors are examples of this. We find ourselves networking with and assisting many of the districts that serve Berrien County's students.

Preventative Maintenance
Preventative Maintenance is the key to fulfilling our mission of transparency. The more time we spend on preventative measures, the less we interrupt your work day with mechanical emergencies. It's just that simple.
We have over 400 pieces of equipment that we have programmed into our preventative maintenance software. Work orders are now automatically generated for all of this equipment.
The software package also helps us track exactly how much money we spend on any piece of equipment as well as store notes on it's service history. This helps us decide which pieces of equipment merit replacement.
Recycling
Do you wonder what happens to old equipment, old desks, scrap metal, etc.? We recycle it and we have been tracking our recycling activity over the last several years. The following is a breakdown of what has been recouped.

We also have battery containers in each of the buildings and once full, we take the batteries for recycling. So please feel free to use these containers for your unwanted batteries.
Cost Recovery
Setting back the thermometers for nights and weekends in all three buildings and when Conference Rooms are not being used, this allows us to conserve energy. We also use a Facility Usage Agreement for the rental of our Buildings, Conference Rooms, Gyms & Pool - we are able to generate income to help with utility costs, wear and tear of the buildings, etc.
