Work-based Learning & Transition Support

Off to College is a free high school program designed by Berrien RESA and Lake Michigan College to help special education students prepare for their future.

During their junior and senior years, students will participate in monthly seminars at Lake Michigan College (Niles or Benton Harbor campus). The seminars focus on the skills needed to be successful in college.

Project SEARCH is a 1 year program that provides workplace training and education leading to employment for students with disabilities.

The program occurs on-site at Corewell Health in St. Joseph. They have committed to support people with disabilities in the workplace. Participants must be at least 18 years old and provide their own transportation.

A Seal of Employability (SOE) is an alternative pathway for high school special education students who, even with a Personal Curriculum, supplementary aids and services, modifications and/or accommodations and special education programming, are unable to meet the Michigan requirements for a high school diploma.

Seal of Employability is a form of recognition or certification that indicates a job candidate possesses the skills, knowledge, and attitudes desirable to employers.
