Medicaid Billing

The Medicaid School Services Program (SSP) allows reimbursement under the Medicaid program for services administered to students with special needs under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and students receiving behavioral/mental health services.

The School Services Program generates Medicaid reimbursement for direct health-related services and Administrative Outreach Program services provided to individuals who are Medicaid eligible and who are receiving Special Education services or behavioral/mental health services.

The following direct health-related services are eligible for reimbursement:

  • Assistive Technology
  • Audiology Services
  • Case Management Services
  • Assessments
  • Nursing Services
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Orientation & Mobility Services
  • Physical Therapy
  • Professional Counseling Services
  • Social Worker Services
  • Special Transportation
  • Speech Therapy

The Administrative Outreach program allows school districts to obtain reimbursement for administrative costs of identifying and helping students who are considered "at-risk" for various health problems. A time-study occurs quarterly and is used to track the time spent on Outreach activities by school personnel.

Medicaid is a jointly funded Federal-State health insurance program for persons with low income and/or disabilities.
