Career Pathway Day is an opportunity for all Berrien County 9th grade students to explore career options available in the region. This event allows students to connect the dots between Career and Technical Education programming, work experiences, college partners, and local industries.

Grant Stipulations

Please be aware that there are stipulations associated with the grant:

50% of the funding must be spent on the Top 5 Career Cluster CIP Codes, OCTE is not using the federal definition for equipment.
An item should be classified as a supply if it does not meet ALL the stated equipment criteria. http://www.michigan.gov/documents/sc-ii_13265_7.pdf (page 50 is the beginning of a section that gives a good picture of what pieces of equipment are vs. what are supplies).
An equipment item is any instrument, machine, apparatus, or set of articles that meets ALL of the following criteria:
- It does not lose its identity through fabrication or incorporation into a different or more complex unit or substance;
- It retains its original shape, appearance, and character with use;
- It is nonexpendable; that is, if the item is damaged or some of its parts are lost or worn out, it is more feasible to repair the item than to replace it with an entirely new unit;
- Under normal conditions of use, including reasonable care and maintenance, it can be expected to serve its principal purpose for at least one year and is not consumed in use;
- Its cost may also affect the decision. If the item costs less than an established, predetermined amount, then it is treated as a supply expense.

Perkins V - Strengthening Career & Technical Education for the 21st Century Act

Description: In 2018, the Strengthening Career & Technical Education for the 21st Century Act (Perkins V) was signed into law. This bill reauthorized the Carl D. Perkins Career & Technical Education Act of 2006 (Perkins IV). Perkins provides opportunities for students in grades 9-16 to pursue specific high-skill, high-demand CTE programs of their choice. The purpose of the Act is to support and improve the quality of CTE education for all students. A rigorous curriculum helps fully develop the academic and career & technical skills of students who elect to enroll in CTE programs.

Allocation Determination: Broken into regional allocations, which are then broken into countywide allocations determined by CPI need. Berrien RESA is identified as CEPD 49, Region 19.

Proper use of Funds: Funds have to be properly spent based on the line item described in their budget proposals from the previous year. This grant cannot be utilized to purchase consumables of any type.
