Educational and Administrative Staff Services & Support

Berrien RESA participates in numerous shared service opportunities for educators. They include:

  • Offering targeted professional development.
  • Maintaining a county-wide curriculum.
  • Providing professional materials and resources to local districts.
  • Providing technical assistance in the areas of math, English language arts, social studies, science, arts education, health, safe & drug-free and evidence-based instructional strategies.
  • Providing math and science based kits and professional development for certain Math and Science Centers across the state.
  • Offering curriculum support in compliance with state high school graduation requirements.
  • Providing templates for state and federal reporting requirements.
  • Providing grant research and writing assistance.
  • Offering resources for principals, curriculum directors, counselors and new teachers through monthly meetings and training opportunities.
  • Serving as the fiscal agent and participating in the Michigan School Improvement Facilitators organization (shares presentations, meeting materials and resources; partners and incites other professional development opportunities; and provides presentation and training to other ISDs).
  • Providing communication and accountability of services for schools identified in the county through the Berrien RESA School Improvement System of Support.
  • Sitting on the Regional Consortium of School Improvement Facilitators.
  • Providing a monthly network for high school principals in Berrien and Cass counties that provides leadership professional development, professional learning materials and resources, materials relative to state mandates, and continuing education credits for principals.
  • Supporting all non-traditional State Board Certified Education Unit offerings that are made available in all local districts.
  • Providing a platform for internal Berrien RESA staff to communicate with local districts regarding specific departmental news and information.
  • Providing office space and administrative support for the Regional Michigan Department of Education Title I Field Service Representative. The Title I Field Service Representative offers leadership coaching and curriculum support for identified school districts.
  • Writing, managing and implementing consortium grants, relative curriculum, instruction, data, professional development and assessment as well as distributes stipends, reimbursements and other funding per each grant.
  • Serving as the Berrien RESA Process Mentor team member for High Priority Schools and managing reports required by the state.
  • Providing support for Van Buren curriculum directors by forwarding pertinent Michigan Department of Education information for school improvement, accreditation, Adequate Yearly Progress, legislative issues and professional development.
  • Serving as a Michigan Department of Education partner for committees, such as the Michigan State Accreditation System, AdvancEd, and Title I.
  • Serving as the key contact for GenNet online learning system, which provides training opportunities,  updates and assists with pupil accounting.
  • Coordinating partnerships for credit opportunities, committees and instruction of record with various community and state colleges and universities.
  • Acting as the designated contact for the Michigan Electronic Grants system, Michigan Department of Education Office of Educational Assessment and Accountability and as the accreditation coordinator for local districts.
  • Sharing pertinent information with Berrien and Van Buren school districts through the Michigan Citizenship Curriculum Collaborative (MC3).
  • Coordinating the Counselor Academy for Berrien County school counselors.
  • Coordinating an annual nonpublic school meeting to share service and program opportunities.
  • Offering the New Teachers' Academy across the tri-county area.
  • Providing language acquisition services for local district students, including field visits, proficiency assessment testing, curriculum, translation services and resources (web page and lending library).
  • Maintains a Crisis Response Team to help assess, plan and intervene in a school- related crisis. The team can be deployed to any school district in the county at a moment’s notice.
