Superintendent Hoppstock receives top score by Berrien RESA Board

Superintendent Hoppstock receives top score by Berrien RESA Board

During Monday’s Board of Education meeting, the Board completed its annual review of the district’s Superintendent, Eric Hoppstock. He received an “effective” evaluation - the highest level possible, resulting in an extension of his contract by one year. Mr. Hoppstock will continue to serve the district through June 30, 2029.

"The Board is immensely proud to award Superintendent Eric Hoppstock an 'effective' evaluation—the highest rating possible in our rubric,” said Berrien RESA Board President Jackie Van Horn. “Eric continues to lead Berrien RESA with a focus on innovation and inclusivity. He has an exceptional ability to take strong operations and find meaningful ways to elevate them even further. His calm demeanor and genuine commitment to active listening ensure our staff, students, and constituent districts consistently feel supported. Leading with a proactive mindset, he is always looking for ways to improve, ensuring student success remains at the forefront of every decision.”

Van Horn noted that Hoppstock’s leadership extends far beyond internal programs. “The continuous wave of positive feedback we receive from the community is a true testament to his outstanding impact on our region,” she said. “From championing state and federal legislative initiatives to partnering with local businesses to create unique career pathways, Eric’s influence is evident across the entire educational landscape.”

For 39 years, Superintendent Hoppstock has provided education services to schools and students across Berrien County. Beginning his career at Berrien RESA in 1987, Hoppstock was a school psychologist, went on to become the Supervisor of the Special Education Department, and then the district’s Assistant Superintendent and Chief Academic Officer.
