Berrien RESA's Parents as Teachers Program and the Libraries of Berrien County to Host Read Around the County Events

What: Berrien RESA’s Parents as Teachers Program and the community libraries of Berrien County are hosting “Read Around the County,” an early childhood reading event.

Who: Families with children up to 5 years of age
When/Where: Thursday, September 21 from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Lake Bluff Park, St. Joseph (across from the Maud Preston Palenske Memorial Library)

Friday, September 22 from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Niles Riverfront Park by the Amphitheatre, Niles

Brief: Children up to 5 years of age along with their parents/caregivers will have the opportunity to enjoy a free literacy activity intended to develop an early love for reading. Favorite stories will be read by costumed readers. The activity is free, and children at each location will receive a book. Snacks and water will also be provided. Parents/caregivers are encouraged to bring blankets to sit on during the story sessions.

In the event of inclement weather, the programs will be canceled. No rain dates are scheduled. To learn if the event has been canceled, please visit www.berrienresa.org.

Both days’ events were coordinated by Berrien RESA’s Parents as Teachers program and Berrien County community libraries. This partnership symbolizes the collective mission of Berrien RESA and the libraries to promote early literacy skills.

Parents as Teachers is an international early childhood parent education and family support program serving families throughout pregnancy until their child enters kindergarten. The program is designed to enhance child development and school achievement through parent education and is accessible to all families.
