Berrien Thrives

Berrien County’s public school districts are doing something unique! They have identified three shared goals to help educators build their skills to teach students how to read, understand essential math skills, and create learning environments where everyone feels safe & welcome. 

Coordinated through Berrien RESA, the region’s education service agency, districts are working together to support the success of every child, no matter where they attend school. Known as Berrien THRIVES, this collaborative approach to teaching and learning is a first for the State of Michigan. Since establishing the goals in 2023, districts have already adopted new curricula, refocused professional learning, and spent time studying the Science of Reading, the 8 Essential Math Practices, and positive behavior strategies to strengthen classroom connectedness.
