Program Information

The Berrien County Truancy Academy is operated by the Berrien Regional Education Service Agency in cooperation with the Berrien County Trial Court. The program is located on the grounds of the Berrien County Juvenile Detention Facility.


The Truancy Academy will assist students who have been truant from school to achieve acceptable attendance. The program will help students recognize the factors contributing to, and the consequences of, poor school attendance.The program will assist students to develop strategies to achieve successful re-entry into the educational mainstream. The program will serve as a resource to the local school districts in addressing student attendance and will serve as a liaison with the Berrien County Trial Court in matters of school attendance to improve overall attendance in Berrien County. Since its opening in September of 2000 the program has served 273 students. The program is geared to students aged 12-15.
